Parenting Opinions

Image
Nothing has a stronger influence psychologically on their environment, and especially on their children, than the unlived lives of the parents.-- Carl Jung Little League baseball is a very good thing because it keeps the parents off the streets.--Yogi Berra The most loving parents and relatives commit murder with smiles on their faces. They force us to destroy the person we really are. .--Jim Morrison The two best jobs in the coaching business would be at an orphanage because there are no parents to deal with and a prison because there are no alumni wanting a say.--Jerry Wainwright Parents who are afraid to put their foot down usually have children who step on their toes. The rules for parents are but three... Love, Limit, and Let them be. Where parents do too much for their children, the children will not do much for themselves. Some parents could do more for their children by not doing so much for them. The Coaching and Leadership Journal  Volume One--2013 Back Is

Tough Thoughts

Image
Toughness is I’m not going to lose sight of what I want to do by what you do or by outside influences. Most coaches will take true toughness over talent any day. Toughness wins.  A players who bends without breaking and bounces back up will prevail over the player who is resistant to bending under pressure but will break with enough force. Toughness has no relationship to how nice a person is. There is no reason you can’t be nice and incredibly tough at the same time. When you combine talent and toughness you have an unbeatable combination. There are a lot of fake people--those who talk about buying in but never really do. Toughness is speaking up with things are not right. Toughness isn’t about trying to talk & intimidate. It’s about meeting challenges head-on and not shrinking from them. ________________________________________________________________________ Toughness: Developing True Strength On and Off the Court

Responsibility, Planning & Control

Image
Most people prefer to hand over responsibility for themselves to other people so that they can blame someone else if something goes wrong. When you make a plan and set a goal, your life tends to move towards that point. You become very focused on what you’re trying to achieve and life does too. And if you’re not careful there’s no room for anything else. The moment you stop trying to control and make things happen, everything just happens quite perfectly without you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Coaching and Leadership Journal  Volume One--2013 Back Issues This lasting material is a terrific resource and will be a great addition to your p

Surround Yourself With Dreamers and Doers

Image
If you’re only surrounded by safe, conservative people--and you care what they think--you are unlikely to move beyond the safe, conservative boundaries they place on their own lives. No matter how you feel--no matter what your desires--you will feel blind fear at the thought of doing things that upset those people around you. Surround yourself with people who believe in expansion, growth and movement. Seek out people who dare to have big dreams. ---------------------------------------------- The Coaching and Leadership Journal  Volume One--2013 Back Issues This lasting material is a terrific resource and will be a great addition to your professional library.
