Great Leaders Keep Their Youthful Spirit

Image
This world demands the qualities of youth; not a time of life but a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the life of ease. ― Robert F. Kennedy You are never too old to become younger! ― Mae West Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old. ― Franz Kafka It's never too late to have a happy childhood. ― Tom Robbins It takes a very long time to become young. ― Pablo Picasso There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age. ― Sophia Loren The secret of remaining young is never to have an emotion that is unbecoming. ― Oscar Wilde, The Coaching and Leadership Journal  Volume One--2013 Back Issues This lasting materia

Lessons Leaders Can Learn From Springsteen

Image
Look after your team. Half of Bruce’s band have been with him since the early 70s. If ever there was an example of a team proving to be more than the sum of its parts, it is the legendary E Street Band. Take a stand. Bruce has never been afraid to embrace political causes even when some of those stances have proved initially unpopular. It pays to have the courage of your convictions. Take life seriously, but not too seriously.  For all his gravitas, Bruce also knows when to be, as he puts it, “corny as hell”. Having a good time is never wrong. Embrace your contradictions . As Bruce once said: “Don’t take yourselves too seriously and take yourself as seriously as death itself. Don’t worry but worry your ass off. Have ironclad confidence. But doubt! It keeps you awake and alert. Believe you are the baddest ass in town and that you also suck – it keeps you honest." Don’t worry about getting old; Springsteen is 67 and regularly plays gigs lasting three hours. Just keep going.

Jumping To Conclusions

A man who lost his axe suspected his neighbor's son of stealing it. To him, as he observed the boy, the way the lad walked, the expression on his face, the manner of his speech--in fact everything about his appearance and behavior betrayed that he had stolen the ax. He was convinced he was reading the kid perfectly Not long afterwards the man found his ax while digging in his cellar. When he saw his neighbor's son again, nothing about the boy's behavior nor appearance seemed to suggest that he had stolen the ax. --Chinese Parable  The Coaching and Leadership Journal  Volume One--2013 Back Issues This lasting material is a terrific resource and will be a great addition to your professional library.
